Moulay Ahmed Charai

Moulay Ahmed Charai

Ahmed Charaï is the publishing director of the weekly magazine “L’Observateur du Maroc & d’Afrique”, of the trimestral “Pouvoirs d’Afrique”, and of the news website “Kifache.com”. He is also the president of “MedRadio” and president of the board of Directors of the daily Arabic newspaper “Al-Ahdath Al-Maghrebiya”.

Charaï is the administrator of many Think-Tanks in the United States: He is a member of the board of Directors of “The Foreign Policy Research Institute” and of the “Center for Strategic and International Studies”. He is a member of the directory of “The Atlantic Council of United States”, of the consultative editorial council of “The National Interest’s Magazine”, and of the consultative council of “United for Africa’s Democracy Future”.

He often writes for big American newspapers and news websites such as “Wall Street Journal” and the “New York Times”.

His holding, “Global Media” owns the weekly magazine “L’Observateur du Maroc & d’Afrique”, the trimestral “Pouvoirs d’Afrique”, the news website “Kifache.com”, the feminine website “lalamoulati.ma”, and the radion station “MedRadio”.

In October of 2014, following what is commonly referred to as ‘Moroccan Leaks’ by anonymous leaker ‘Chris Coleman’, Moulay Ahmed Charai was found to be at the heart of a scandal linking Moroccan foreign secret services and foreign journalists receiving payoffs to write positively about the kingdom or even stay off controversial topics. The leak was revolving around a number of Charai’s emails where he brags to having ‘constituted a strong network of friendly journalists’. Among those were French (Vincent Hervouët of the LCI channel, José Garçon of Libération, and Mireille Duteil of weekly Le Point and Dominique Lagarde of weekly L’Express) and American journalists. His role was to supposedly transfer funds to them as the money originated from the counter intelligence services.
