The Akwa group is a public company owned in majority by the Akhannouch and Wakrim families. It was founded in 1959 Ahmed Ouldhadj Akhannouch, father of current Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch, under the name Afriquia SMDC (Société Marocaine de Distribution de Carburants), which is today a subsidiary of Akwa. This conglomerate is mainly active in the field of gas and oil distribution. However, over time it has expanded its reach to the following fields: hospitality, tourism, telecommunication and real estate.
